Pall Rings
MACH Engineering’s lineup of random tower packing products includes plastic Pall Rings in a range of sizes and configurations. Our plastic Pall Rings, also comparable to HiFlow Ring® and FLEXIRING®, typically feature a long cylindrical shape, with large windows on the sides and several crossbars, forming a lightweight web of edges that disrupts liquid flow without taking up excessive amounts of tower space. Alternatives to Pall Rings include solid-walled Raschig rings, which are typically made from ceramic or metal, and round plastic Tri-Packs® packing.
Benefits of Plastic Pall Rings
Plastic Pall Rings offer several benefits compared to other random packing materials:
- excellent strength and stability when exposed to high temperatures or harsh chemicals
- higher capacity and efficiency and lower pressure drops than saddle-shaped packing
- high levels of separation efficiency and operational flexibility
- robust and suitable for use in deep packed beds
- oldest and most common type of packing used in the past 40+ years
Materials and Options
- PP (polypropylene)
- PE (polyethylene)
- PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
- CPVC (Corzan®)
- PVDF (Kynar®)
- PFA (Teflon®)
PE and PP are both low-density plastics with a low compression strength, suitable for temperatures up to 90˚C or 100˚C, respectively. PVDF is the densest option, with the highest compression strength. It’s suitable for temperatures up to 150˚C. PVC offers good density but is only suitable for use in temperatures up to 60˚C.

Applications and Industries
Plastic Pall Rings are among the most commonly used tower packing materials for applications involving gas and liquid separation. Because of their ability to withstand corrosive environments, they’re a mainstay in chemical process towers. Other applications include CO2 absorption, SO2, HCl and HF absorption or stripping, and chlorine and chlorine dioxide absorption in water or caustics.
Whatever the application, our plastic Pall Rings will deliver efficient, reliable performance at an affordable price point.
