Interpack®
Interpack® tower packing, also known as metal conjugate rings, offers a compromise between spherical and cylindrical packing products, providing some of the benefits of both in select applications. Their unique structure — known as a conjugate curve — has a good surface-area-to-void-space ratio and a low height-to-diameter ratio. The result is a product that is less susceptible to deformation and suitable for use in higher bed heights.
MACH Engineering offers Interpack® metal tower packing in multiple sizes and materials. We stand behind our products with a material quality guarantee as well as expert advice and engineering consulting services.
Product Details
Our Interpack® tower packing is made from sheet metal that has been bent into a cylindrical shape with tabs along each edge. When installed in a tower bed, Interpack® rings will arrange themselves in a structured formation, with minimal risk of deformation.
Our products come in 3/8″, 5/8″ and 3/4″ sizes, and are customizable to meet the specific needs of your application. Materials we work with include:
- 304 and 304L stainless steel
- 316 and 316L stainless steel
- Carbon steel
- Aluminum
Stainless steel and aluminum offer the best corrosion resistance, particularly in the low-carbon variants (304L and 316L). Both are lightweight and strong, with excellent structural integrity. Carbon steel is a durable, cost-effective choice for applications where corrosion resistance is less of a concern.

Industries, Applications, and Benefits
Metal conjugate rings’ main benefit is their ability to reduce pressure drop and deliver high mass transfer performance. They have good mechanical strength with a low overall weight, which makes them easier to install, remove and use in high-volume tower beds. Their open structure provides minimal flow resistance and small bulk density.
Applications that use our Interpack® tower packing include extraction and distillation, and any other process involving drying towers, carbon dioxide degassing towers, scrubbing towers, ozone contact reaction towers, and related vessels.
