CO₂ Removal and Biogas Upgrading Using Scrubber and Stripper Columns | Case Study

Initial Challenge / Problem

Need for CO₂ removal and separation in a biogas upgrading system using scrubber and stripper columns.

Industry of Client Biogas / Renewable Energy (biogas upgrading systems)
Type of Pollutants CO₂
Material 316L stainless steel
Design Features – High number of discharge holes for uniform liquid distribution
– Chimney trays and redistributors for improved mass transfer

Project Location

Burnaby, Canada (Client HQ)
Brazil (Project installation location – Totara Plus)

Scale of Operation

Industrial-scale gas treatment system
60” diameter scrubber column
72” diameter stripper column

System Components / Customizations

Custom-designed column internals including:
– Liquid distributors (top and mid-bed)
– Flash gallery
– Multibeam support plates
– Feed pipe distribution system

Integration with Existing Systems

Internals designed to be installed inside existing vessels (Tags: PV01 and PV03), indicating retrofit integration.

Installation Timeline

– Drawings: ~3 weeks after order
– Fabrication: ~8 weeks after drawing approval
– Shipment: ~3–4 weeks after approved drawings

Special Considerations

– Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and QA/QC reports required
– Installation manuals and material traceability documentation required
– Packaging must meet international shipping standards (HT stamped wood)
