Calibrating the pH Probe on HCl-Caustic Packed Bed Scrubber Guide

Calibrating the pH probe in your HCl-Caustic Packed Bed Scrubber is crucial for ensuring accurate readings and optimal performance. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the calibration process, ensuring your system operates efficiently. Follow these instructions carefully to achieve precise pH measurements.

Step 1: Prepare the System

Before starting the calibration process, ensure that the system is ready:

  1. Turn Off the Circulation Pump: This prevents any liquid movement that could affect the calibration.
  2. Close the Valves: Close the valves leading to the pH loop to isolate it from the rest of the system.
  3. Drain the Liquid: Carefully drain any liquid remaining in the pH loop to prepare for the calibration process.

Step 2: Access the pH Sensor

Now that the system is prepped, you’ll need to access the pH sensor:

  1. Loosen the Nut: Using the appropriate tool, loosen the nut that holds the pH pream sensor in place.
  2. Remove the pH Sensor: Carefully remove the pH sensor from its housing.
  3. Rinse the Sensor: Place the sensor in fresh water to rinse it off. This ensures that any residue does not affect the calibration.

Step 3: Begin Calibration

With the pH sensor clean, it’s time to start the calibration process:

  1. Access the Calibration Menu: On your controller, navigate to the pH settings:
    • Press the up arrow to highlight pHS1.
    • Press the button beneath the arrow to select it.
  2. Initiate Calibration: When prompted, select the calibration option. Look for the calibration symbol (a square with a plus sign) and press it.
  3. Choose Calibration Type: Select 2 Point Buffer Calibration from the options provided. Confirm that you want to disable control.

Step 4: First Buffer Calibration

For the first buffer calibration, follow these steps:

  1. First Buffer Value: When prompted, enter the first buffer value of 7.70 pH.
  2. Immerse the Sensor: Place the sensor into a pH 7 buffer solution. Stir it gently to ensure proper mixing.
  3. Allow to Stabilize: Let the sensor sit in the buffer until it stabilizes. This may take a moment.
  4. Confirm Stabilization: Once stabilized, confirm the reading on your controller.
  5. Remove Sensor: Follow the prompt to remove the sensor and prepare for the second buffer.

Step 5: Second Buffer Calibration

Now, calibrate using the second buffer:

  1. Rinse the Sensor: Rinse the pH sensor again with fresh water to eliminate any residual buffer from the first calibration.
  2. Place in Second Buffer: Immerse the sensor into a pH 10 buffer solution. Confirm that the controller recognizes the second buffer value as 10.00 pH.
  3. Stabilize Again: Allow the sensor to stabilize in the second buffer, stirring as needed.
  4. Confirmation: Once stabilized, confirm the reading on your controller.

Step 6: Save Calibration Results

  1. Save the Calibration: After confirming the second buffer, you will be prompted to save the calibration results. Press the button below the checkmark to save.
  2. Final Rinse: Rinse the sensor one last time and prepare to return it to the process.

Importance of Calibration

Calibration of the pH probe in your HCl-Caustic Packed Bed Scrubber is essential for maintaining accurate pH levels within your system. By following this step-by-step guide, you can ensure that your pH measurements are reliable, enhancing the overall performance of your scrubber. Regular calibration will contribute to efficient operation and optimal chemical management.
